Red oak furniture export specification guide

A clear brief helps a custom furniture manufacturer in China quote the same construction, finish and packing scope for every room or hospitality project.

Reviewed 2 September 2026Scope: dimensions, materials, finish and export packing

1. Define the room and use case

Start with where the furniture will be used, not only with a product name. A hotel bedroom, restaurant dining room and residential living room require different durability, cleaning and delivery decisions.

“Solid wood” is not a complete material specification. Ask the supplier to identify the wood species, grade, moisture or treatment requirement, veneer/solid scope and any engineered-board components.

2. Freeze dimensions and construction

Provide an overall drawing or dimensioned reference for every item. Record width, depth, height, seat height, clearances, leg profile, hardware and assembly points. This is especially important when comparing a red oak dining table exporter or an oak bed frame and nightstand supplier.

  1. List finished dimensions in one unit and define allowable tolerance.
  2. Mark load-bearing parts, joinery, drawer runners, hinges, glass and removable panels.
  3. Describe upholstery fabric or leather, foam density, colour reference and cleanability when applicable.
  4. State knock-down, semi-assembled or fully assembled construction and the tools included.
  5. Attach finish samples or an approved colour reference; do not rely on a screen colour alone.

3. Ask for a comparable export quote

For bedroom furniture wholesale, hospitality furniture manufacturing or custom oak dimensions, request a quote that separates product, sampling, tooling, packing and logistics assumptions.

Prices shown on a reference page are not fixed offers. Final price, material and capacity require the selected supplier to confirm the complete brief.

4. Keep the project evidence with each SKU

Save the dimension drawing, finish sample, approved prototype photos, packing diagram, inspection record and quotation under one product ID. This is useful for an oak furniture OEM, a contract furniture China supplier or a retailer repeating a room set next season.

Use the furniture sourcing catalog to compare room categories, then complete the buyer specification sheet before sending an RFQ. Supplier capability and final dimensions still need confirmation for every SKU.

Frequently asked questions

What does a furniture export brief need first?

Room/use, finished dimensions, construction, material scope, finish, quantity, assembly, packing and destination are the minimum fields for a comparable quote.

Can a screen photo confirm red oak colour?

No. Use a physical or supplier-approved finish reference and record the lighting or viewing condition used for approval.

Should a hospitality project request assembled furniture?

It depends on access, labour and freight volume. Ask suppliers to quote assembled and knock-down options with carton dimensions so the trade-off is visible.
