How to Verify Motorcycle Clutch Plate Fitment Before a Wholesale Order

A practical RFQ checklist for confirming the requested friction plate, application evidence, set contents, measurements, packing unit and current quote basis.

A clutch friction plate can look familiar in a catalogue photo and still be the wrong order line. A model name alone may leave the year, engine version, market, part revision and pack contents unclear. For a wholesale buyer, that uncertainty can turn into a mixed carton, a delayed receiving check or an application question that is expensive to resolve after dispatch.

Quick answer: Before approving a bulk order, match the requested part reference to the supplier’s offered code, record the exact motorcycle version, compare available drawings or sample measurements, confirm whether the offer is friction plates only or a complete stack, and obtain written fitment and commercial terms for the stated quantity and destination. Keep every unverified field marked as pending.

Why a clutch friction plate needs a line-by-line fitment check

“Clutch plate” can describe different components or sales units. A request may be for friction plates only, friction and steel plates together, or a packed kit. The phrase “same as the photo” does not tell the buyer how many pieces are included, which dimensions apply, or whether a particular vehicle year and market are covered.

Use three separate identities in the enquiry: the buyer’s requested reference, the supplier’s offered item or code, and the vehicle application being checked. Do not merge them into one SKU field. If a supplier proposes a substitute, record it as a separate offer and ask the buyer to approve the deviation in writing.

For example, VOBOM’s catalogue reference page displays the supplier-listed label 22201-KWW-601 and explicitly says its photo does not establish the plate count, exact material, dimensions or motorcycle fitment. The page treats the accompanying application label as seller wording that needs verification. That is the right distinction to preserve in an RFQ: a catalogue clue helps identify a question; it is not proof that the part has been confirmed for a specific bike.

Start with the clutch friction plate catalogue reference and its stated limitations. If you are comparing other references, browse the clutch friction and steel plates category; category membership also does not certify fitment.

Six checks to make before you compare clutch-plate quotes

Buyer checkWhat to record or request
Requested identityBuyer line number, requested part or OEM reference, any readable marking, and the supplier’s full offered code. Keep proposed substitutions separate.
Vehicle versionMake, model, year, engine or chassis code when available, destination market and the source used for the application check. Ask the supplier to state what is confirmed and what remains open.
Physical dimensionsRequest the supplier’s drawing or measured outside diameter, inside diameter, thickness, tab or slot count and relevant tab dimensions. Ask how measurements were taken and what tolerance applies; do not infer values from a photo.
Material and constructionAsk the supplier to identify the offered construction and material specification in the quotation or supporting document. Do not describe material, friction performance or service life as verified unless the supplier provides evidence for that exact item.
Set and pack contentsConfirm friction plates only versus a complete stack, whether steel plates are included, pieces per sales unit, units per carton and label or packing instructions. State what the order quantity counts.
Current commercial termsRequest a dated quote for the actual quantity and destination, including MOQ per variant, currency, price unit, breaks, validity, lead-time start, packing and stated exclusions.

These fields make two quotations comparable without suggesting either supplier has passed an independent test. If a drawing, measurement or fitment source is unavailable, show “not provided” and ask whether a sample or additional vehicle information is required.

A practical sequence for checking an application

  1. Identify the request. Write the buyer’s part reference and the vehicle details exactly as supplied. Ask for a clear photo of the existing part, its markings or the relevant document if the buyer has one.
  2. Identify the offered item. Have the supplier return its own code, the proposed sales unit and any substitution. A matching reference string should be checked against the supplier’s source, not assumed to be interchangeable.
  3. Compare available physical evidence. Ask for a drawing or the measurement points, units and tolerances. Compare like-for-like measurements and construction details; photos are useful for identification but rarely document every dimension.
  4. Ask for a written application response. Have the supplier confirm the exact make, model, year, engine version and destination market that its evidence covers. If it can only provide a catalogue label, leave fitment status as “supplier label only” or “evidence pending.”
  5. Agree a sample check before bulk approval. If a sample is needed, document the sample identifier, the checks the buyer will perform, the reference photos or drawing revision, and who approves it. A sample review is specific to the agreed checks; it does not prove every later production unit.
  6. Carry the decision to the order. Put the confirmed offer code, pack contents, quantity unit and unresolved exceptions on the same line in the quote and purchase order. Do not let a confirmed model name silently replace a still-open technical check.

Copy-ready details for a clutch-plate RFQ

Send one line per requested variant. If a field is unknown, label it “please confirm” instead of guessing. Attach only photos or documents the buyer is entitled to share.

Buyer line / requested reference:
Motorcycle make, model, year, engine or chassis code:
Destination market:
Existing part markings or document reference:
Requested item: friction plates only / full stack / please quote both
Supplier offered code and exact pack contents:

Sample required? Checks and approval contact:

For a multi-item order, the motorcycle-parts wholesale RFQ template can help keep each variant and commercial assumption on its own line. Ask the supplier to return the same identifiers in its quotation so the order and receiving records stay connected.

How to compare the wholesale quote fairly

Compare prices only after the offered item and sales unit are clear. A price per piece is not comparable to a price per set if the number and type of plates differ. Show quantity breaks and MOQ per variant separately; record currency, quote date, validity, destination, packing, shipping basis and any exclusions. Ask when the quoted lead time begins, such as after deposit, sample approval or another stated event.

Keep technical status separate from price status. A low quote does not resolve an open fitment question, and a supplier’s application label should not be presented to customers as a verified compatibility claim. If the supplier cannot answer a required point, keep that item on hold for the buyer’s decision.

Common buyer questions

Can I order a friction plate using only the motorcycle model name?

Use the model name as a starting clue, then provide the year, engine or chassis details, market and available part markings. Ask the supplier to confirm the offered reference and the source behind its application statement in writing.

Does a catalogue photo prove the plate size or set contents?

No. A photo may help identify the item, but it does not establish measurements, tolerances, plate count, material, included steel plates or fitment. Request those details for the exact offered code and sales unit.

Are MOQ, price and availability fixed on a catalogue page?

They should be confirmed in a current written quotation for the buyer’s quantity and destination. This guide and the linked catalogue reference do not publish a guaranteed MOQ, price, stock position or lead time.

Request a checked wholesale quote

Include the part reference, full vehicle details, quantity per variant, requested pack contents and destination. We can route the open questions for supplier confirmation before the quote is treated as ready for a purchase decision. Start with the clutch friction plate reference, review the clutch category, or send the details through VOBOM’s contact page.
