Motorcycle Cable Wholesale RFQ: What Buyers Should Send
A request for “100 motorcycle cables” leaves too many questions open. Use one RFQ line per option, include the motorcycle and part references, and ask the supplier to confirm the cable identity, measurement basis, MOQ and sample scope in writing.
For each clutch, throttle, brake, speedometer or other cable, send the motorcycle make, model, year, market/version, an OEM or existing part reference when available, clear photos of both ends, quantity and destination. If you do not have a part number, mark the application as unconfirmed and ask the supplier to identify it from the evidence. Ask for written confirmation of fitment, end hardware, measurement method, MOQ per SKU, price breaks, lead time and packing before comparing quotes.
Why “motorcycle cable” is not a complete RFQ
A cable name tells a seller its general function; it does not identify the exact assembly. Two listings may use the same words while showing different option labels or end fittings. A product photo may also represent a family of options rather than the exact item on a quote.
Keep your internal SKU, the supplier’s option label and any OEM reference in separate fields. Ask which exact option is being quoted. If a cross-reference is not confirmed, label it for identification only so it cannot be mistaken for approved fitment.
Identify the application before asking for a price
Give the supplier enough evidence to distinguish model years and market versions. Unknown fields should stay marked as unknown instead of being filled with a guess.
Cable function
State clutch, throttle, brake, speedometer or another named function. If a listing uses a different label, quote that label separately and ask the supplier to reconcile it.
Motorcycle identity
Provide make, model, model year, engine or chassis code if known, and the destination-market version. Include the trim or variant when the parts catalogue distinguishes it.
Part references
Send an OEM number, supplier code, package label or old invoice reference when available. State which source each number came from and whether it has already been matched.
Visual evidence
Attach clear photos of the full assembly and both end fittings. Add close-ups of adjusters, stops and labels, plus a drawing or measurement sketch if one exists. Do not rely on a cropped image of one end.
Buyer check: ask the supplier to repeat the exact option label and reference on the quotation. “Looks similar” is not a confirmed interchange.
Define the measurement basis instead of sending one unexplained length
Length figures are comparable only when both sides mean the same thing. A stated inner-wire length, outer-housing length and assembled cable length can describe different measurements. Ask the supplier to name the two measurement points and return a drawing or marked photo for the quoted option.
| RFQ field | Buyer should send | Supplier should confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Length | Existing part, drawing, or the measurement points used | Whether the figure refers to inner wire, housing or another assembly measurement; the start and end points |
| End fittings | Clear photos of both ends, including orientation and any visible adjuster | Fitting type and orientation for the exact option; any unresolved difference |
| Application | Make, model, year, market version and part reference | The catalogue or supplier reference used to confirm the match |
| Variant | One row for each option or application | Which options can be mixed in a carton and the MOQ for each line |
Do not compare a dimension copied from a seller page with a sample measurement until the unit, endpoints and cable component are clear. If the supplier cannot define the basis, leave that value open on the quote and request clarification.
Keep each cable option and quantity on its own line
For a multi-model order, create one line for each confirmed cable option. This makes it possible to check whether the supplier’s MOQ applies to the whole order or to each SKU, and whether mixed-model packing is allowed.
- Use a buyer line number and your internal SKU; keep the supplier code in a separate column.
- Write the model/year/version and cable function on every row instead of using “same as above.”
- Show the requested quantity by option and ask for price breaks by that quantity.
- Ask how samples, individual labels, bulk packing and carton marks will be handled.
- State the delivery destination and requested trade term so the quotation has a clear scope.
Compare written quotations on the same scope
Before choosing an offer, check whether every supplier quoted the same cable option and order split. Put the answers beside each SKU rather than combining them into one total.
Identity
Supplier option, OEM or catalogue reference, application evidence and any open fitment question.
Commercial scope
MOQ per SKU, price breaks, quote validity, sample charge and production lead time.
Order presentation
Individual or bulk packing, label fields, mixed-SKU rules and destination assumptions.
Evidence
Drawing or sample reference, required documents and the supplier’s written confirmation of unresolved points.
Keep missing answers visible. A low total is not an apples-to-apples offer if one quotation leaves fitment, option count or packing out of scope.
Use a sample to lock the approved reference
When the application or end details are uncertain, request a sample against a named buyer line and supplier option. Record the reference, received date, photos, measured points and approval status together. If it is not approved, keep the issue attached to that option and do not silently substitute another version in the purchase order.
For cables that operate vehicle controls, have fit and function reviewed by a qualified person using the vehicle maker’s service information. This buying checklist does not establish vehicle fitment or replace technical inspection.

Product function: [clutch / throttle / brake / speedometer / other] Motorcycle make, model and year: Market version / engine or chassis code: OEM, supplier or package reference (state source): Buyer line / internal SKU: Reference photos or drawing: [attached / available on request] Cable option label: Measurement needed: [please state endpoints and whether inner wire or housing] Quantity per exact option: Mixed-SKU and packing request: Destination and requested trade term: Please confirm the exact supplier option and application evidence. Please identify the measurement basis, end fittings and any open differences. Please quote MOQ per SKU, price breaks, quote validity, sample terms, production lead time, packing/labels and required documents.
Replace each bracketed field with the information you have. If a reference, dimension or application has not been verified, say so in the RFQ and ask the supplier to resolve it in writing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order a cable described as “universal”?
Treat “universal” as a supplier description, not a fitment result. Ask for the exact applications, option reference and any limitations, then compare them with your buyer’s vehicle data.
What if I do not have an OEM part number?
Send the make, model, year, market version and clear photos of the full cable and both ends. Ask the supplier to identify the option and state what evidence supports the match; keep the fitment open until it is confirmed.
Is one length measurement enough?
Usually it is not enough for quote comparison unless the supplier defines the component, endpoints and method. Ask for a marked drawing or photo and use the same basis for every offer.
How should I request mixed-model quantities?
List each exact option on a separate row, show its quantity and ask whether the MOQ and price tier apply per option or to the combined order. Confirm mixed packing and labels in writing.
Need a cable request checked?
Send the cable function, motorcycle identity, reference photos, quantity by option and destination. Availability and fitment are confirmed for each request before a quotation is treated as final.
