5 Pitfalls When Sourcing CNC Motorcycle Parts

And how SE-Asia distributors avoid them

Whether you build for Y15ZR, Wave 125, NMAX or LC135, the sourcing mistakes are the same. Here is what catches new buyers out — and the check we run before every quote.

The 5 traps

1. Treating "ISO 9001" text as a certificate

On B2B platforms that field is often self-filled. Ask for the cert PDF with a verifiable number and check it on the issuer's site.

2. Guessing fitment by model name

Same model, different year, different mount. Confirm by year + photo of the mounting point before quoting.

3. Ignoring real MOQ vs display MOQ

Store pages show lead-gen numbers. The real bulk price only appears after you confirm volume with the factory.

4. Mixed branding on public photos

Supplier watermarked photos can't go on your site. Use neutral or blank packaging and crop marks before public use.

5. Dead supplier links

Stores go down. If a source URL is dead, block quoting until a fresh supplier is confirmed — never quote from a cached photo alone.

What to send before asking for a quote

A useful RFQ lets different suppliers quote the same requirement. Without a common specification, the lowest number may refer to a different alloy, finish, packing method or fitment.

  • Product identity: product type, motorcycle model, production year and a clear photo of the original mounting point.
  • Technical requirement: material, key dimensions, thread or hole position, finish, colour and any logo restriction.
  • Commercial requirement: trial quantity, expected repeat volume, target country and whether mixed models or colours are acceptable.
  • Packing requirement: neutral blank packing, individual bag or box, carton quantity, barcode and label language.
  • Documents: ask which report applies to the quoted SKU, then record its number, scope, issuer and validity date.
  • Delivery basis: required date, destination, shipping term and whether inspection must be completed before dispatch.

How to compare two supplier quotations

Compare quotations only after normalising the assumptions. A unit price alone does not show whether tooling, anodising, laser marking, inner packing, cartons, inspection or domestic delivery is included.

Match the specification

Confirm that both quotes use the same material grade, dimensions, finish, tolerance and fitment reference. If a supplier substitutes a material or process, record it as an alternative rather than treating it as the same item.

Separate trial and repeat pricing

Ask for quantity tiers that reflect your trial order and likely repeat order. Confirm whether the MOQ applies per design, per colour or across a mixed batch.

Check the production clock

Lead time should start from a defined event such as deposit receipt, drawing approval or sample confirmation. Keep production time separate from international transit time.

Keep evidence with the SKU

Save the approved photo, specification, certificate evidence, packing confirmation and supplier quotation under one stable product ID. This prevents a document from one product being reused for another.

For quotation-only products, Vobom confirms the current supplier route, fitment inputs, quantity and destination before giving a final commercial offer. Browse the motorcycle parts sourcing route, review qualification checks, or read the shipping policy.
